Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Savannah River watershed - Elbert County: The neighborhood of Oglesby was subject to a Boil Water order issued Friday following emergency water-main and valve replacement on the 700 block of North Columbia. Customers on North Columbia and Fitzgerald were impacted. Elberton Water serves 7800 residents from a surface water source, intakes in Beaverdam Creek and Lake Russell.

Cleveland experienced a water main break last week September 3 that took out the water service and prompted a BWA for Green, Cox Creek, Quillian Green Street and Boulevard, Lunsford Lane, Mountain Overlook Dr., Bob White Circle, Town View, Pine Crest, and Pine Crest Circle. Cleveland Waterworks serves 5587 customers in White County from a surface water source purchased from White County, groundwater wells are available for backup supply, along with an intake in Turner Creek.

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Georgia
Below normal streamflows continue to dominate in north and central Georgia Sunday. Moderate drought persists in the Lower Flint River watershed from Marion to Decatur County. Lower Coosa River Floyd and Polk County, Tallapoosa River watershed Carroll and Haralson also in moderate drought. Much of the remaining area of north and central state are rated below normal. Excluded from the drought map Sunday, two sections of the Chattahoochee River watershed, from the Upper channel Union to north Fulton County and a section of the lower channel from Muscogee to North Clay. The southeast is entirely clear of a drought rating, the west edge of the Savannah and all of Ogeechee River watersheds are also unrated.

Safe Drinking Water
Spills of toxic materials have the potential to endanger public health and contaminate groundwater, surface water, and soils, even in very small amounts. Hazardous materials spills are tagged on the map to the right in pink. Turn on the watershed layer with labels and directional arrows enabled to understand the potential impact zone of spill incidents. Drinking water advisories within the same impact zone are tagged in yellow, or red for do not consume. Black tags indicate flooding, think of floodwater mobilizing contaminants through the drainage area or impact zone.

Drinking water facilities are profiled in the SDWA Act column, see drinking water facility profiles with source water details here, and the US EPA compliance stats for Georgia's drinking water facilities and those with significant Safe Drinking Water Act violations, here.

When discharge permits are not followed, whether intentionally or accidentally, the US EPA can step into an enforcement role to assist the State. See an example of a paint company convicted for dumping hazardous materials, here.
