City of Washington BWA resolved quickly after major water leak repair

Wilkes County: City of Washington Boil issued a city wide BWA last week Thursday following repair of a significant water leak on Highway 44. According to the City, the incident impacted all water customers. The advisory was lifted by Friday, Feb 7 at 1 pm, according to City of Washington staff.
Washington serves 6490 residents from surface water in Savannah River watershed. From the Annual Water Quality Report 2022, "The City of Washington has two surface water plants. The Aonia Water Treatment Plant, located 7 miles east of Washington on Highway 78, uses as its source Clarks Hill Reservoir. Water from the reservoir is pumped approximately 6 miles to the plant. The Aonia Plant is capable of treating 2 million gallons per day (MGD). The Skull Shoals Water Treatment Plant is located on N, 2 miles west of the city. Its sources are Lake Boline and Lake Wall. This plant is capable of treating 2 MGD." WTGA.us notes the clean US EPA compliance record, no violations identified in the last three years, up to the last verified reporting period, the quarter ended Sep 30, 2024.
