Freezing Fog Advisory
Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by NWS Peachtree City 426 am Tues Jan 28
A freezing fog advisory is in effect for portions of north Georgia. Areas of freezing fog may lead to minor ice accumulations on elevated surfaces and overpasses. Further south on the north and west sides of the metro, freezing fog is very patchy but could have similar impacts where it does develop, especially in valleys,
open fields, and near bodies of water. Fog should dissipate quickly after sunrise and temperatures should quickly rise above freezing.
There is a chance for rain across north and central Georgia Friday and Saturday. A few rumbles of thunder will be possible, generally across portions of central Georgia.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Hancock County: City of Sparta issued a BWA on the weekend following a number of water main breaks caused by the cold weather. City of Sparta water department staff confirm this morning the BWA remains in effect, waiting on the lab results. City of Sparta provides potable water for 3354 residents plus businesses, raw water is sourced from Lake Sinclair in the Oconee River watershed.
Sinclair Dam impounds the Oconee River to form Lake Sinclair, the source of raw water for Sparta and several other municipalities. Sparta water facility was last inspected by the state in March 2022. Minor deficiencies were noted, including in distribution, finished water storage and pumps. Recommendations were made at that time for data verification and source. EPA records no serious violations of the SDWA in the last twelve quarters. In three of the last twelve quarters, there are non-compliance issues related to surface water treatment rule and public notice rule.
EPA has released new quarterly report on drinking water facilities compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. Of the 2376 licensed and active drinking water facilities serving in Georgia, twenty-eight have significant violations in the latest quarter. See the prior quarterly report, how Georgia's drinking water facilities stack up against those in Ohio, New York, Louisiana and California, here.

Coosa River watershed in the northwest is the singular exception, unrated. See the front page map with the watershed layer enabled, to visualize the location of Coosa River watershed and the counties that are still enjoying normal moisture levels. Over to the Atlantic Ocean drainage basin, the Upper Savannah River watershed is in moderate drought from Banks and Franklin Counties down to central Elbert County. In the south, the lower Chattachoochee River watershed is in moderate drought from Early to Seminole County, right to Lake Seminole. Adjacent lower Flint River watershed is rated below normal.
