Washington springs a large leak, system-wide BWA until further notice

Safe Drinking Water Advisories

Wilkes County: Washington water plant issued a system-wide BWA following a very large leak from the plant yesterday. The boil advisory applies to all connections until further notice. Washington supplies potable water to a population of 6490 from a surface water source, intake in Beaverdam Creek, Clarks Hill Lake and alternate in Litte Beaverdam Creek in the Savannah River watershed. Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Georgia

Flooding continues in four rivers Sunday, Savannah, Ogeechee have retired back to their channels leaving Altamaha flooding near Baxleythe southeast with a Flood Warning issued this morning by the NWS for Ogeechee River near Eden, currently running half a foot over flood stage on a slow declining trend. Also flooding in the Atlantic basin, Altamaha River is still flooding near Baxley, a little more than half a foot over the minor flood stage there. Satilla River is still flooding in Atkinson County, half a foot over the channel. In the Gulf of Mexico basin, Alapaha River continues to flood a foot over near Alapaha, and across the line still flowing 3 ft out of the channel near Jennings.

Current streamflows run seasonal normal in the north and central regions with normal to above seasonal normal flows across the south as water levels have been receding on both sides of the state divide. There are no low flows or drought conditions in the state at this report.

Moderate rip current risk this morning through Monday evening for southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
