Oostanula, Oconee, Ocmulgee Rivers flooding, 60 mph wind and thunderstorms for north and central GA

Urgent Weather Message issued by NWS Peachtree City 727 am Sun Feb 16
A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will affect east central Georgia through 10 AM. Wind gusts in the 40 to 60 mph range may lead to tree and power line damage. A brief tornado will also be possible. A wind advisory remains in effect until noon.

Isolated areas of river flooding remain a concern along portions of the Chattahoochee, Ocmulgee, and Oconee Rivers.

There is a chance for light snow across portions of far north Georgia Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

Storm spotters are requested to self-activate tonight and Sunday morning if warnings are issued.

Streamflow Situation from the network of river monitoring gauges of the US Geological Survey in Georgia

Gordon County: In the northwest, Oostanula River is back to flooding at Calhoun, three inches over minor flood stage as of this report holding steady volume, neither increasing nor decreasing. Flood stage was breached in the wee hours of Friday Feb 14, flow peaked less than a foot above flood stage in the early afternoon Friday and fully back in the channel early Saturday morning, flooding a little over 24 hours in all. Just this morning around 8 am, flooding started again at Calhoun. More to follow.

East and south of the state divide, the upper Oconee River is flooding near Penfield, more than a foot above minor flood stage and on a steady decline now. Downstream near Oconee, the Oconee River breached flood stage around 530 this morning, running four inches over minor flood stage at 14500 cubic feet per second and rising. Ocmulgee River is running two feet above the channel at Macon, this flood started on Thursday Feb 13.
