Rain in the forecast for tomorrow

Streamflow Situation from the network of river monitors of the USGS throughout the watersheds of Georgia
Water levels remain normal statewide with a single instance of low flow recorded below the Tobesofkee Dam near Macon.

Fair, 37 degrees at Warner Robins Air Force Base, a high of 49 expected with no rain in the forecast Sunday, a fifty percent chance of rain tomorrow. Fair and 39 degrees at Hunter US Army Airfield near Savannah, a sunny day ahead with a high of 52. Forty percent chance of showers tomorrow.

Drinking water source protection
Toxic materials pollute drinking water sources, above and below ground. Hazardous materials spills reported to state authorities are part of the set of water impacting factors depicted as they happen on the front page map. In addition to the spills covered here, watersheds are impacted by industrial discharges from federally regulated sites, as reported to the Toxic Release Inventory. Sampling is done at landfill test sites for leaching contaminants impacting groundwater. Industrial point-source discharges regulated by national and state discharge permits are known and expected sources of contamination loading the waterways of the state. Municipalities release treated wastewater with an accepted level of residual contaminants. Heavy rains flush untreated sewage into watersheds from combined sanitary and storm sewer storage. Toxics shedding from consumer goods have been showing up in the wastewater for decades. Public awareness and a change in consumer behavior may be the shortest path to curbing the continued pollution of drinking water supplies.

Environmental Working Group has generated a list are reminded that labeling for harmful chemicals is not required in many instances, beginning to look for independent certification for those alternative goods and products that are free of harmful chemicals.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Houston County: A boil water advisory was issued late Tuesday following a water main break near the intersection of State Route 247 and Elberta Road. Residents and businesses near Elberta Road, State Route 247 north of Elberta Road, Dunbar Road, Story Road and Plantation Road are advised to boil water at a hard rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.

The advisory will remain in effect until the Houston County Water Department confirms water safety through testing. For more information, concerned individuals may contact the Houston County Utility Department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 478-987-4280.

Houston County provides drinking water under at least five active permits, Feagin Mill, Haynesville, Henderson, Elberta and Elko. The Elberta water treatment plant serves a population of 3080 residents from a groundwater well source in the Ocmulgee River watershed.
