Chattahoochee River's Buford Dam and source water supply for millions

Streamflow Situation from the network of river monitors of the USGS throughout the watersheds of Georgia
Streamflows are coming back down to seasonal normal after a run of much above normal through the north. Starting to see some below normal water levels on the Chattahoochee River once again, downstream of Buford Dam, the source of hydroelectric power and drinking water for millions of Georgia residents and commercial interests. Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, "Lake Lanier—formed in 1956 by the construction of Buford Dam and beginning around 50 miles south of the Chattahoochee’s source spring — is critical to the region’s health. The lake provides drinking water for more than five million people and 70 percent of Metro Atlanta residents."

Drought ratings have been rolled back for Lower Flint River and upper Savannah River watershed overnight. Below normal ratings remain on the Satilla\Altamaha River watershed through Appling, Camden and Glynn Counties. St. Mary's River watershed also remains below normal, impacting Charlton County.

Overcast today in the north, 60 degrees the temp recorded at Warner Robins Air Force Base, patchy fog giving way to mostly sunny skies, the expected high around 69 Tuesday. For New Year's Eve, mostly clear, low around 39 with some west wind gusts up to 20 mph. Its fair and 56 degrees at Hunter US Army Airfield near Savannah, the Charleston SC local forecast office calls for a high up to 75 and sunny skies. Clear for NYE, low 45 degrees.
