Thunderstorms tonight

Hazardous Weather Outlook issued 12 pm Sat Dec 28 by NWS Peachtree City
Scattered thunderstorms are possible across much of the area late this afternoon into the overnight. A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move into northern and western Georgia early on Sunday morning. Damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes are concerns.

Periods of heavy rainfall are expected tonight through Sunday morning, especially across north Georgia. Isolated flash flooding and minor river flooding will be possible.


The line of strong to severe thunderstorms will continue progressing across the area Sunday morning and early afternoon. Damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes are concerns. Much of the forecast area is under a Slight Risk, or level 2 out of 5, for severe thunderstorms.

Streamflow Situation from the network of river monitors of the USGS throughout the watersheds of Georgia
Overcast, 62 degrees at Warner Robins Air Force Base with a chance of showers before 2 am, a chance of thunderstorms from 2 am to 5 am, the likelihood for showers increases to 60% after 5 am, up to a quarter inch of rain expected, higher amounts with thunderstorms. Overcast and 68 at Savannah's Hunter US Army Airfield, a chance of showers this evening before 9 pm, and again tonight after 2 am.

Streamflows have normalized in the Chattahoochee River watershed and much of the north, an area of central Georgia is still recording below normal flows, this may shift with the rain forecast tonight.

Chattahoochee and Tallapoosa watersheds remain in moderate drought with the remainder of north and central GA rated below normal, the one exception Coosa River watershed. In the south portion of the Atlantic basin, Altamaha and St Marys River watersheds remain below normal.
