Frost overnight in the north, central areas
Streamflow Situation from the network of river monitors of the USGS throughout the watersheds of Georgia
Fair, 30 degrees at Warner Robins Air Force Base Saturday, frosty morning will melt away to a sunny day, high 52. Fair and 42 at Hunter US Army Airfield, the NWS Savannah forecast office says it will be sunny, high 55 and no hazardous weather on the horizon.
Streamflows continue seasonal statewide with below normal to much below seasonal normal water levels along the Chattahoochee River in the upper channel from Buford Dam to Whitesburg. The low level below the dam is likely the result of limiting the daily controlled releases to build up a higher water level in Lake Lanier, rather than lack of new precipitation. No flooding is observed as of this report, no extreme lows observed in the network.
Safe Drinking Water Act
Fifty years ago this week, national legislation was passed to ensure a consistent quality of drinking water for the American people. The Environmental Protection Agency has responsibility to assist drinking water facilities to source, treat and distribute potable water to the minimum standards established in the Safe Drinking Water Act, ensuring public safety and inspiring public confidence in municipal drinking water. The Department of Environmental Protection, Drinking Water Division carries out the oversight for SDWA in Georgia, supporting 2381 licensed drinking water facilities to meet or exceed SDWA standards. Through the challenges of floods, contaminant spills and naturally occurring substances that must be removed from the drinking water, the personnel of water treatment facilities of Georgia are to be commended for their service.
See how Georgia's drinking water facilities SDWA compliance compares to Ohio, New York, Louisiana and California, here.
See yellow tags on the map for the locations of drinking water facilities with recent boil water advisories. Enable the watershed layer with directional arrows to see the impact zone for surface water contamination, the pink tags indicate recent hazardous spills reported to the Department of Environmental Protection.
