Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in Georgia
Light rain falling at Warner Robins Air Force Base with fog and mist, 65 degrees heading up to 72. NWS posts a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms clearing by noon, with a second round of showers anticipated after 3pm. Showers are likely tonight, 90% chance, with a thunderstorm possible after 10pm. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible.
Streamflows run mostly normal statewide with a below normal belt cutting through central Georgia. Watch for this to change through the day and tonight, especially along I-85 through Atlanta. As of this report, there are no active floods reported in the reference network and no extreme high flows. Tobesofkee Creek continues to run at a record low for this date near Macon, this should change with the amount of rainfall forecast today.
The drought map shows most of north and central Georgia rated below normal, Gilmer County has come off the drought map, adding to the area of Coosa River watershed that is unrated ( west Lumpkin, Dawson, Cherokee and Bartow Counties) in the midst of below normal ratings. More to follow as the rain comes down, these conditions shift rapidly, we see the changes in near real time on the streamflow dashboard. Sites recording flooding will be tagged to the map in black, 99th percentile flows or those in action stage for flooding in blue. Flood alerts will go out to subscribers as the situation changes today.
