Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in Georgia
Freezing in the north and central Georgia area, the current weather from Warner Robins Air Force Base is fair with a temperature 31 degrees, heading up to a sunny clear day, high 52. Streamflows are trending downward through the central state midweek, in the lower end of normal to below normal. As of this report there are a couple of record high streamflows in the Chattahoochee River watershed due to releases from the Allatoona and Buford dams. These high flow values are expected to resolve within the day.
Lower streamflows are reflected on the drought map as the below normal rating has expanded again, spreading west from Savannah River watershed to Oconee and Ocmulgee over the last couple of days, today the 7-day average streamflows have lit up the below normal moisture rating across the state height-of-land divide into the Upper Flint River watershed. Below normal moisture is present in east Coweta and Fayette Counties down to Taylor County.

As the EPA studies new contaminant threats to public drinking water, the SDWA is periodically amended. In April 2024, a suite of six per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances were added to the list of contaminants that drinking water facilities will be required to monitor and report, with legally enforceable maximum contaminant levels. US licensed drinking water facilities have until 2029 to establish the capacity for compliance with the amended regulation. Funding has been established to assist with the cost.
