Ogeechee flooding at Eden, Satilla River flooding Atkinson County, Altahama River flooding near Baxley, Alapaha flooding Alapaha and near Jennings FL

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Georgia

Flooding continues in the southeast with a Flood Warning issued this morning by the NWS for Ogeechee River near Eden, currently running half a foot over flood stage on a slow declining trend. Also flooding in the Atlantic basin, Altamaha River is still flooding near Baxley, down to less than 2 feet out of the channel on a steadily declining flow trend. Satilla River is still flooding in Atkinson County, peaking a foot above flood stage, a level flow trend as of this report, the leftovers from Hurricane Helene clearing to the outlets in the Atlantic. On the Gulf of Mexico side of the divide, the Alapaha River is still flooding at two stations either side of the Georgia-Florida line, the Suwannee River tributary exits water from the continent in the Gulf of Mexico via Florida. Flow at Alapaha is just above two feet flooding on a slow decline, still rated moderate flood stage. The downstream station near Jennings, FL is almost five feet above the channel, just out of moderate flood stage and slowly receding from the peak flow 8 feet over the channel on the night of Oct 8, wee hours of Oct 9.

Current streamflows run seasonal normal in the north and central regions with above seasonal normal flows in the southwest, trending upward to much above seasonal normal to high in the southeast. There are no low flows or drought conditions in the state at this report.

Moderate rip current risk this morning through this evening for southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
