NWS: Flood Watch through Sunday, Turnpike Creek in action stage near McRae

Hazardous Weather Outlook issued 524 am Saturday Sep 14 by NWS Peachtree City
A Flood Watch is in effect through Sunday morning for portions of western Georgia. Rainfall amounts of 1-2" with isolated amounts of 4" or more will be possible. This will lead to isolated flash flood risks, especially for areas which have seen heavy rainfall on previous days.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible in portions of central Georgia through Tuesday. Severe weather is not expected, but storms will be capable of heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.

Spotter activation is not requested, but spotters are encouraged to submit reports of severe weather through Please relay any information about observed severe weather to the NWS, here.

Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of monitors in Georgia
With several inches of rainfall expected today, Turnpike Creek in central GA is in action stage near McRae. The flow trend is level for now, more to follow. Streamflows run much above normal to high in the southwest, tapering off to seasonal normal in the southeast. The north and central streamflow monitors continue rated below normal on the drought map, still recording mostly below normal values. Moderate drought ratings apply along the north border in the upper Savannah River watershed Rabun County and adjacent Tennessee River watershed east section through Towns and Fannin Counties. Another area of moderate drought on the west border encompasses Coosa River watershed at west Floyd, Pickens Counties and Tallapoosa River watershed Carroll and Haralson Counties. As of this report, there are no extreme low flows or flood events recorded in the reference network.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Monroe County: A broken water main on Tuesday this week prompted a BWA for customers along Big Buck Trail. North Monroe Water System supplies drinking water to 2903 customers, including those connecting on Big Buck Trail. Surface water purchased from City of Forsyth originates in Tobesofkee Creek.
