NWS: Flood Watch, Wind advisory, tornado threat today for west Georgia
Hazardous Weather Outlook issued 447 am Thursday Sep 12 by NWS Peachtree City
A Flood Watch will be in effect today through Friday evening for
portions of west Georgia. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible
as tropical moisture overspreads the area through tonight, which
may lead to flooding and flash flooding concerns.
A Wind Advisory is in effect today through early Friday morning
for portions of north Georgia. Wind gusts up to the 35 MPH with
isolated gusts nearing 40 MPH are possible.
An isolated, brief tornado threat will be in place this afternoon
into tonight, mainly for areas west of the I-75 corridor.
Periods of heavy rainfall will remain possible Friday through
Sunday, which will lead to continued flash flooding and flooding

Spotter activation is not requested, but spotters are encouraged
to submit reports of severe weather through the web by going to

Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges
Tracking Francine: Downgraded to Tropical Depression this morning, Francine is slowing down over land, the current intensity down to 35 mph. According to the National Weather Service, the threat of flash flooding has passed and the Flood Watch has expired as of 7 am this morning. Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of monitors in Georgia
Showers and thunderstorms in the forecast today and tomorrow, hazardous weather outlook issued by NWS Peachtree City indicates risk of flooding and an isolated tornado threat. The current streamflow picture for north and central Georgia is an even mix of below normal to much below seasonal normal volumes in the creeks and rivers. A low rating is recorded on Oostanula River at Resaca this hour, 2nd percentile. No part of the north and central state is exempt from a drought rating today, all Gulf of Mexico facing watersheds are rated below normal to moderate drought in the north and central regions, an area of lower Chattahoochee and adjacent lower Flint River are unrated in the south. Atlantic drainage basin is mostly free of drought, Upper Savannah River being an exception at moderate drought from Rabun to north Hart, and middle Savannah River watershed rated below normal from Lincoln to central Screven Counties. As of this report, there are no extreme high or low flows recorded in the network.

A new satellite image uploaded September 11 reveals Lake Champlain open water and shorelines, the bloom in St Albans Bay is the only HAB visible, matching the concentration color scale for 800 thousand cells per ml. See the NCCOS color image of Lake Champlain here.
Two hundred and nine HABs are confirmed active Thursday morning, down from 257 Tuesday. Black Lake is back on the HAB radar with a second round of bluegreen growth confirmed in St Lawrence County. The latest impacted water body list is available here.
