Gordon, Argyle BWAs

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
The City of Gordon has issued a Boil Water Advisory until further Notice, according to the Mayor of the City on Friday, August 30.

Argyle Village is under a system-wide Boil Water Advisory since water service has resumed. Coastal Water Utilities customers in this part of Chatham County have had their water connections out of service due to flooding contamination caused by Tropical Storm Debby. Now that the wells have been sanitized and water is flowing from the taps again, customers are urged to flush stagnant water from the lines by allowing the taps to run for several minutes, boil all water intended for consumption or brushing teeth until further notice.

For more information on Georgia's drinking water facilities, see the latest EPA compliance stats here.

Streamflow Situation
Streamflows still run below normal in north and central Georgia Saturday with rainstorms in the forecast today and daily for the coming week. Southeast streamflows continue along at seasonal normal as the flood recovery continues. Moderate drought has crept into Coosa and Tallapoosa River watersheds in the northwest, with Gilmer and east Gordon managing to avoid the drought map, the remaining surface area of north Georgia is all rated below normal. In Central GA, only the Oconee River watershed is avoiding a drought rating, all the rest below normal today. Upper Savannah River watershed remains in moderate drought from Rabun to Hart with Sky Valley in severe drought.

WT HAB Tracker
from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS), Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN) and State sources where available

Georgia
Cyanobacteria cell counts detected by US EPA Cyanobacterial Assessment Network (CyAN) have been accessed for a number of Georgia lakes including Jackson Lake, Lake Lanier and Lake Hartwell. With very few anecdotal reports of HAB poisonings and extremely rare official reports of HABs, Georgia was not highlighted as a priority for early implementation of the HAB assessment program. As the system is rolled out over the next decade, Georgia too will have support to safeguard drinking water quality, public and environmental health. More to follow as we work through the collection of archived data from CyAN, getting familiar with the HAB history in specific water bodies in Georgia. See the Georgia water bodies list with cell counts here.
