Chattahoochee River watershed on the drought map

Current Streamflow Situation
Below normal flow values are registering lower in the Oconee River watershed Friday. Much below normal rating on Brier Creek holds an area of Savannah River on the drought map another day. Below normal rated area on the drought map has expanded from the Tallapoosa River watershed and Upper Flint River watershed to now include the middle Chattahoochee River watershed, this adjacent area in the Gulf of Mexico drainage basin runs from Haralson to Harris on the west state border to Clayton County down to the south end of Taylor County. On the Atlantic drainage basin side of the divide, the lower Ocmulgee River watershed remains below normal at south Laurens County, west Wheeler, east Dodge and north Telfair Counties; and Brier Creek channel is still rated below normal through south McDuffie, north Glascock, central Burke and central Screven Counties in the Savannah River watershed.
WT USA Flood Tracker provisional data from the network of USGS streamflow monitors
Thirty-two flood events are recorded on the national USGS network Friday, down from thirty-five Thursday. Another flooding has been rolled up in Louisiana overnight with Region 4 Calcasieu River retreating back into its channel near Glenmora around midnight. WT USA now tracking three reference floods events through the coverage area New York, Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana. At the writing of this report, all are occurring in Louisiana.
Louisiana: Sabine River flooding ended yesterday at Logansport leaving two monitored sites downstream on the west border Sabine River still over the channel, currently recorded four feet four inches over flood stage near Bon Wier and two feet nine inches over flood stage near Ruliff, rolling along between 40 and 50 thousand cubic feet per second. Bayou Bodcau Lake is still out of the basin by four feet. For more information on the flood trend in Louisiana, see black tags indicating flood flow volume and gauge height updated daily here.
As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds. Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
