Satilla River flooding at Atkinson

WT USA Flows and Flood Tracker provisional data from the network of USGS streamflow monitors

As of this report, sixty-eight sites record flooding on the USGS network through the USA with eighteen happening in WT coverage area. The nation's most common disaster is recorded through south Georgia, presenting a sample of nine stations recording flooding. Louisiana has dropped one flood event this morning, currently recorded in flood stage at nine sites in the network.

Louisiana is down one flood incident in Region 5 watershed as expected, Bayou Nezpique got back in line with the natural channel near Basile at LA 190 just ahead of the noon hour today. South in Region 5, Mermentau River maintains six inches over flood stage at Mermentau. Region 1 watershed's Bayou Bodcau continues to recede in the face of a severe weather advisory calling for locally heavy downpours this evening and overnight. Bayou Bodcau picks up rainfall shed from 668 square miles of east Bossier Parish and southwest Arkansas, where the weather alert applies. Bayou Bodcau reached a peak flow ten feet above the basin on April 21, has been steadily receding since, currently less than two feet over the basin. Flooding in Region 4 continues at the Texas border with Sabine River flooding near Bon Wier, TX and downstream near Ruliff, TX. Calcasieu River continues to run more than a foot over the channel in three monitored locations midweek: in the upper channel near Glenmora, downstream near Oberlin and near Kinder. In Region 7, Pearl River is up three inches overnight, currently a foot and a half above flood stage near Bogalusa, downstream less than a foot over at the Town of Pearl River. Georgia: Flooding shifted downstream in the Atlantic Ocean basin over the previous 24 hours. Satilla River breached flood stage at Atkinson Tuesday afternoon, currently running seven to eight inches above the channel and rising. Flooding continues upstream on Satilla River at GA158 and at another station downstream near Waycross. Tributaries Alabaha, Little Satilla continue to flood at GA203 near Blackshear and near Offerman, respectively. Savannah River is receding near Cylo, running a foot and three inches above the channel. Gulf Basin flooding is tapering off midweek. Ochlockonee River flooding knocked off near Thomasville Tuesday afternoon while downstream at Concord the flow peaked in moderate flood stage. As of this report, Ochlockonee River is coming out of moderate flood stage, still two feet above the channel. Withlachoochee River continues flooding, still three feet over the channel at Skipper Bridge Rd near Bemiss, close to five feet over the channel and at US84 near Quitman. As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds.
