Flooding in the USA provisional data from USGS streamflow monitors

Twenty-seven streamgauges record flood stage in continental USA today, down from thirty-one this time yesterday.

WT tracks flooding and drinking water quality in four states. As of this report, no flooding is reported in the networks in New York or Ohio.

Louisiana picked up a fifth streamgauge reporting over flood stage, this being downstream of where Bayou Dorcheat has been flooding since March 8. Following heavy rains through southern Arkansas and northwest Louisiana last week, Bayou Dorcheat took on a lot of runoff, peaking more than seven feet above flood stage on March 17 around 145 am near Springhill. The surge of runoff passed through the channel fairly quickly, finding Minden twenty four hours later. Bayou Dorcheat began rising rapidly in the early morning hours of March 18, breaching flood stage yesterday around 10 am. As of this report, Bayou Dorcheat is about halfway back down from its peak near Springhill and dropping, the flow near Minden is rising, beginning to slow the rate of rise, possibly looking to peak soon.

Bayou Bodcau continues to flood the area to the west of Bayou Dorcheat, running four feet over near Shreveport and rising. Flooding here had come within a foot of ending prior to the March 17 and 18 rain event. Pearl River is still flooding in watershed region 7 near Bogalusa, still flooding according to the Pearl River monitor downstream. along the east state line.

Georgia dropped one flood monitor overnight, today down to ten reports of flooding in the network. The current flood event in GA began on March 6 caused by heavy rain through north and central Georgia. Major rivers still flooding Monday include the Ocmulgee, Altamaha, Satilla, Savannah, Ogeechee and, Ohoopee Rivers, all heading for the Atlantic Ocean. Refer to black tags on the maps for updated flood flow levels, blue tags for 99th percentile high flows.
