HAPPENING NOW
Ocmulgee River flooding at Lumber City
Altamaha flooding near Everett City

Water news for Saturday, March 16, 2024 updated 240 pm EDT

Streamflow Situation provisional data from USGS current streamflow monitors
Fifteen streamflow monitors are recording active flooding Saturday, up from 14 yesterday, 16 Thursday and 25 on Wednesday. Altamaha River breached flood stage around 7 am this morning near Everett City as expected. Volume in the largest free-flowing river on the east coast is still increasing as of this report.

Toward the Gulf of Mexico, the lower Flint River continues flooding from Newton to the impoundment, Lake Seminole. Apalachicola River is no longer flooding at Chattahoochee, FL.

Atlantic flow Ocmulgee River quit flooding at Hawkinsville last night around 945 pm, still flooding at Abbeville and now also flooding downstream at Lumber City. The flooding at Lumber City started up around 5 pm Friday. Downstream from Lumber City the Ocmulgee joins the Oconee River, itself still flooding near Mount Vernon. The combined flow of these twin rivers is called Altamaha, the largest river on the east coast with no impoundments and/or dams. Ohoopee River, flooding for a week near Reidsville throws in with Altamaha downstream of flooding near Charlotteville and Baxley, carrying on down to flood Doctortown. Just this morning, this flow spilled over near Everett City.

Savannah River is flooding at Burtons Ferry Road near Millhaven, and downstream Cylo. Ogeechee River continues to flood at Eden, Ohoopee River is still flooding at Reidsville, Canoochee River floods on at Claxton, Little Satilla River is flooding near Offerman.

Check black tags on the map for flood levels updated throughout the day, blue tags for high flow.
