Streamflow situation based on provisional data from USGS streamflow gauges in the rivers and creeks of Georgia
USGS records no streamflows above flood stage in Georgia Friday. Across the entire network of USGS streamflow gauges, there are only two stations recording active flooding, these are in Louisiana, see https://wtla.us for those details.

Altamaha River ceased to overflow near Everett City station around midnight, currently flowing two inches under minor flood stage and declining. Flooding knocked off near Baxley on Wednesday evening. Savannah River ceased flood behavior on Wednesday night also. Now that all the waterways are back inside their channels, we look at the drought map to see what is in store next.

Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow compared with historic average
Mississippi-bound drainage area takes on a steeper drought rating in northwest Georgia Friday. Tennessee River west section Dade, Walker and Catoosa counties have stepped up to moderate hydrologic drought. The north state line Whitfield and Murray Counties and the west half of Floyd and Polk Countiies on the northwest state line are all that remains of Coosa River watershed area on the drought map Friday, all rated below normal. Tennessee River watershed east section, Fannin and south Union Counties have popped on the drought map below normal Friday. Tallapoosa River watershed remains below normal at Haralson and Carroll Counties. Rain in the forecast today may yet adjust the streamflows and drought map for the weekend.

In the Atlantic basin, Lower Ocmulgee River watershed remains at moderate hydrologic drought from south Laurens County, catching east Dodge, west Wheeler and north Telfair Counties as well. Upper Ocmulgee Henry, Butts, Monroe and Bibb County remain at below normal status Friday.

Ogeechee River watershed remains below normal Friday from east Hancock through Jefferson and Burke Counties. Adjacent Savannah River watershed area remains below normal from northeast Greene County through Taliaferro, including parts of Wilkes, McDuffie, Lincoln and Columbia Counties.

USGS Provisional Data Statement
Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
Data users are cautioned to consider carefully the provisional nature of the information before using it for decisions that concern personal or public safety or the conduct of business that involves substantial monetary or operational consequences. Information concerning the accuracy and appropriate uses of these data or concerning other hydrologic data may be obtained from the USGS.

USGS seven-day average streamflows at each monitoring location are rated against the historic average flow volume for this day. Results appear on the drought map, showing surface area with a rating: below normal, moderate drought, severe drought or extreme drought. The drought-rated surface area most often follows watershed lines, the physical topography of drainage and direction of flow of the surface water across the state. The watershed layer on the map shows surface area impacted by streamflows in each drainage area. Turn the directional arrows on to see which way the water flows, along with hazardous spills reported in the area that could have an impact on water quality.
