Streamflows in the north much above normal to high Friday. Mississippi basin flows around Atlanta much above normal to extreme high with flooding near Canton, Powder Springs, Austell, Alpharetta.

On the Atlantic side, Savannah River and tributaries are flowing much above normal to high in the northeast, with normal ratings in central and southeast GA. Ocmulgee River is flooding at Macon and Oconee River is flooding near Penfield. Updates in progress, more to follow. There are no extreme low flows as of this update.

Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow compared with historic average
Chattahoochee River watershed area is no longer rated below normal, total area rated on the drought map is down to small areas of Coosa and Flint River watersheds in the Mississippi basin side of the Georgia divide.

On the Atlantic side of the divide, Lower Ocmulgee River watershed remains rated below normal at south Laurens, east Dodge, west Wheeler and north Telfair. A small area of Middle Savannah River watershed appears below normal today, the high flows occurring now will see this rating reverse in short order. The remaining area of Atlantic basin is not rated on the drought map as of this update.
USGS seven-day average streamflows at each monitoring location are rated against the historic average flow volume for this day. Results appear on the drought map, showing surface area with a rating: below normal, moderate drought, severe drought or extreme drought. The drought-rated surface area most often follows watershed lines, the physical topography of drainage and direction of flow of the surface water across the state. The watershed layer on the map shows surface area impacted by streamflows in each drainage area. Turn the directional arrows on to see which way the water flows, along with hazardous spills reported in the area that could have an impact on water quality.

HABs update from Georgia Department of Natural Resources - Coastal Resources Division Shellfish and Water Quality Unit

Permanent advisories remain in effect for bacterial contamination at Jekyll Clam Creek Beach on the north end of Jekyll Island and St Andrews Beach on the south end. Lab tests processed at Brunswick on samples collected Tuesday January 2, 2024 show the enterococcus levels below the health advisory threshold. Clam Creek Beach came in at 4 cfu per 100 ml and 9 cfu per 100 ml for St Andrews.
