Thursday, December 28, 2023 - last updated 429 pm EST

Drinking Water Advisories
City of Clayton issued a boil water advisory for the top half of Shadyside Apartments on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. The BWA applies until further notice, no additional details given.

Streamflow situation from USGS Waterwatch gages throughout Georgia
Satilla River is levelling off at Atkinson, still flowing above minor flood stage Thursday afternoon. St Marys River is flowing above minor flood stage at MacClenny, FL and Folkston GA, see black location tags on the map for flow details updated as of 429 pm.

Chattahoochee River is flowing low at 14th St in Columbus, running 18.03 ft deep at 2670 cfs Thursday afternoon. Flint River watershed is down to just one station reporting much below normal by afternoon.

Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow compared with historic average
North Georgia drought map is looking quite different this morning, the only rated area remaining being the Coosa and Tallpoosa River watersheds at below normal.

Upper Flint River watershed in central GA hangs on to below normal rating, shifting up to moderate drought south of Taylor County. Lower Chattahoochee watershed is rated below normal from Muscogee to Seminole County.

In the Atlantic basin, the Lower Savannah River, Ocmulgee and Oconee River watersheds are off the drought map Thursday.

USGS seven-day average streamflows at each monitoring location are rated against the historic average flow volume for this day. Results appear on the drought map, showing surface area with a rating: below normal, moderate drought, severe drought or extreme drought. The drought-rated surface area most often follows watershed lines, the physical topography of drainage and direction of flow of the surface water across the state. The watershed layer on the map shows surface area impacted by streamflows in each drainage area. Turn the directional arrows on to see which way the water flows, along with hazardous spills reported in the area that could have an impact on water quality.

Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
Data users are cautioned to consider carefully the provisional nature of the information before using it for decisions that concern personal or public safety or the conduct of business that involves substantial monetary or operational consequences. Information concerning the accuracy and appropriate uses of these data or concerning other hydrologic data may be obtained from the USGS.
